RCIP

The Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) provides a pathway to permanent residence for skilled workers who want to live and work in rural and remote Canadian communities. Only 14 select communities, chosen for their readiness to welcome newcomers, participate in this program. These communities designate specific local employers who can offer job opportunities that are otherwise difficult to fill.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify under the RCIP, you must:

  • Have a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the pilot communities.
  • Obtain an endorsement from the community’s economic development organization that partners with IRCC.
  • Possess at least 1 year (1,560 hours) of relevant work experience within the past 3 years.
    • Exemptions apply if you’ve graduated from a public post-secondary institution in the nominating community under certain conditions.
  • Meet language proficiency requirements through approved testing.
  • Hold a recognized educational credential—either Canadian or equivalent through an Educational Credential Assessment.
  • Demonstrate sufficient settlement funds to support yourself and your accompanying family members.

Summary

The RCIP is designed to help rural communities fill critical labour gaps by connecting skilled foreign workers with designated local employers while offering newcomers a clear path to permanent residence.
