Provincial Immigration-Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of Canada

What is the Provincial Nominee Program?

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) refers to an immigration program that is sponsored and managed by one of Canada’s ten (10) provinces (except Quebec) and by one of our Canada’s three (3) territories (except Nunavut). The Provincial Nominee Program allows a province or territory to nominate immigrant applicants who have interest in settling in that province or territory.

This Provincial Nominee Program immigration stream is aligned with the Federal Express Entry immigration selection system, also known as “Enhanced Nominations”, because they award the Express Entry candidate an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.

Requirements for the Provincial Nominee Program

  • Attend the website of the province or territory you want to apply to (except Quebec or Nunavut).
  • Specific requirements are set out by each province and territory.
  • Medical exam.
  • Police certificate (criminal record check).
  • Applications may be through the online Federal Express Entry system or just by the standard paper process.

The general requirements for each province and territory are:

  • education, skills, and work experience to contribute to the economy of the province or territory which you apply and nominates you,
  • your residence will be in that province or territory,
  • become a permanent resident of Canada.

Benefits of the Provincial Nominee Program

  • The nominated candidate can get an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.
  • Even though the paper processing takes longer, PNP does provide an easier immigration process into Canada.
  • Choosing the right province may provide you better opportunities for a job.
  • You can choose a province in accordance to their cost of living rates.
  • The foreign national may have a better opportunity to migrate using a Provincial Nominee Program, than trying to migrate using one of the federal immigration programs.

Restrictions of the Provincial Nominee Program

  • Depending on the province or territory, your application process may be by the online Express Entry process, or only by the standard paper process. Paper process is a longer process than the Online Express Entry system.
  • You will be required, by contract, to live in the province or territory that nominates you for at least two (2) years.
  • Depending on the province or territory, you may require a job offer to apply for their Provincial Nominee Program.

Exemptions to the Provincial Nominee Program

Any exemptions or exceptions are listed and explained by each provincial or territorial guide and program application outline.
